The Engagement Ring

Once upon a time there was a 14 year old boy who went shooting with his family somewhere in Astoria, Oregon and although the activity was more on hunting poor animals as their victims, the little boy ended up treasure hunting. A glitter caught his eyes. It was a ring. What was it doing there? It was for the boy to keep. He promised himself that he will give it to the woman he will marry and it didn't matter whether it's genuine or not.

After 16 years, evidently, the boy has already turned into a fine young man. This fine young man sent the ring with a bunch of DVDs in a tiny box wrapped in a shabby paper towel. He requested the recipient not to open the box yet until he arrives. The recipient didn't have a single idea that a ring was in there so the recipient just obeyed the plea. He did open the box the day after he arrived and gave the DVDs except the ring.

After a while, the young man proposed to the recipient but she didn't receive the ring. Was he doubtful of his proposal? Was the woman not the right choice? The woman on the other hand was just overwhelmed with the proposal and she had no idea what was running in his mind. In fact, the woman didn't realize she got proposed to without a ring. Moreover, the couple got engrossed with the preparations for their wedding and all the while the man gave no hint of the ring.

Two days before their wedding the woman was helping the man tidy up his pad and noticed some crumpled papers on top of his wardrobe. She asked him about it and the man was caught off guard at the sleuthing skills of the woman. At first he stuttered but eventually revealed its content and its story. The man was after all not doubtful of his proposal and neither did he make the wrong choice. He stated that he just got cold feet to hand it to her because he thought it's not pricey looking. While the man was explaining, he didn't know that the woman was in seventh heaven already. She didn't even bother to ask if the ring was costly or not. All she knew at that time was that the man has kept something for her for a long period of time. It's like a promise made and done in heaven for her.

Eventually, the wedding took place and the woman wore the ring on that momentous day. You might wonder if the ring has a value or not, well, the woman had to give her husband a peace of mind so one day they went to a mall and she just snuck and had it appraised by a jeweler. She's not going to say how much the ring costs but she can give you a hint: it can be a good down payment for an automobile but she wouldn't trade it for the world! :)

Defying gravity...

like, I could?! I've been wondering why balance seems to be a battle lately. I don't want to blame everything to my purty doll shoes because "my handsome" gave them to me on my birthday. The first incident  occurred last week when I missed a step mounting a public transportation, fortunately that time I didn't butcher my skin but the humiliation was inimitable! Ha ha! The second incident happened on Sunday night. We were on our way home from a birthday gathering somewhere in the east and we saw this cab and tried to hail it but before we could even catch up with it I just heard a big thud and next thing I know "my handsome" was already helping me up and leading me to the side of the road. It hurt but I didn't know that I had a bad one. We still managed to get that cab and went home safely. What I didn't expect was the excruciating pain that I felt the following day and I could barely move my right leg and the sting from the scratched skin was immense. I thought I would pass out as I took tiny steps from our room to the bathroom. I had to call the day off from work thinking that it will get better on Tuesday but I was wrong because my condition remained almost the same. How I prayed and cried to God every time I moved. Anyhow,  I am back to work now with a bandage (not with a vengeance, he he!) and the climb to the fourth floor was challenging but the security guard of the building was kind enough to help me strut myself up here. Ha ha! The reason I mentioned that I didn't want to blame my doll shoes was because I wore them when these series of unfortunate events happened although I've learned  a lesson that I shouldn't wear them when the sky is crying or I'll end up crying, too.
